Body
Approximately 600 boys and girls in grades
Pre-K through 8 attend St. John. Approximately 5%
belong to ethnic groups other than Caucasian. Students
live in 35 different zip codes from Virginia, West
Virginia, and Maryland.
The school will accomodate 3 classes per grade with
an average class size of 24 students.
Accreditation & Memberships
St. John is approved by the Maryland State
Department of Education and is accredited by the Middle
States Association of Colleges and Elementary Schools.
The school is a member of the National Catholic
Education Association.
Leadership & Governance
Karen Smith is the Principal. St. John
is governed by a School Board made up of representatives
from the seven regional parishes, a business representative
and an academic representative.
Curriculum
The academic curriculum is based on national
standards and is approved by the Middle States Association
of Schools and Colleges. In addition to the
core curriculum, all students have classes in computers,
Spanish, art, physical education, and music. Through
the religion classes, daily efforts are made to develop
an attitude of prayer and to foster the knowledge
and appreciation of the richness of the Catholic faith.
Students also participate in the Quest Program,
a school wide Enrichment Model developed by Dr. Renzulli
of the University of Connecticut.
