The SJRCS Pre-K program uses the Little Treasures integrated reading and phonics program as its core curriculum. Social studies, science, art, and music are all included as part of this cross-curricular program. Each day starts with prayer and circle time.
Â
The Pre-K program is accredited by the Middle States Association and also holds a Letter of Compliance from the Maryland State Department of Education. Each classroom is equipped with its own tot-size bathroom facilities. Students can play outdoors in safety on an enclosed tot-lot playground.
Â
A certified teacher works in each classroom along with a teacher’s aide. All Pre-K personnel are CPR certified and hold current Basic First Aid certification.
Â
Religion is taught each day. The regular religion program called God Made the World, is specifically written for four-year olds. This religion series is a comprehensive early childhood program, designed to nurture and enrich the faith and spiritual lives of primary age children. The developmentally appropriate curriculum is carefully planned so that, at completion, the children are ready to continue their faith journey into Kindergarten and beyond. This religion series has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church by the Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the Use of the Catechism. The program is supplemented by regular visits from the Pre-K chaplain, Deacon Jeff Sutterman, from St. Katharine Drexel parish.
