There are various athletic opportunities for our students to participate in with their classmates. The SJRCS sports program, which is run by a parent committee of volunteers, includes: basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and cheerleading. Our newest endeavors include an equestrian team and volleyball.  Â
Â
Basketball
Our 1st and 2nd graders participate in an in-house instructional league designed to teach the basic skills of the game, sportsmanship and teamwork. We have 4-5 weeks of instructional clinics followed by 4-5 weeks of live games. For the second straight year, we will be including teams from outside St. Johns to play in games against our group in an informal basis.
Our 3rd thru 8th graders participate in the Monocacy League which plays against teams from all over the county to include Mt. Airy, Urbana, Walkersville and the like. Basketball begins in early November and runs through late February.
Soccer
Currently St. John fields teams for Kindergarten through 6th grade. We currently participate in the Frederick City league for both the fall and spring seasons. As the program grows, we continue to explore other league options to enhance the program.

Lacrosse
Lacrosse is offered to both boys and girls in grades 1 through 8. We participate in the Western Maryland Youth Lacrosse Conference playing against teams from all over the county. The lacrosse season extends from early March through late May and we also participate in an 8 week fall ball and an indoor winter league at the SportsPlex in Frederick.
Track
Track is a new sport in its second season at St. Johns and has been met with great enthusiasm and excitement. We had over 50 children from all age groups participate in the spring of 2007. Track runs from late March through late May and we participate in as many as 6-8 meets throughout Frederick County. In order for this program to continue, we need to find coaches willing to take this activity on. Please contact Pat Crowley to discuss if you are interested.
Cheerleading
Our Cheerleading Program consists of 6th thru 8th grade girls. They cheer for the 8th grade boy’s basketball team as well as an annual festival at FedEx Field during a Redskins game. They also participate in a middle school competition in Baltimore each year.
Â
Volleyball
St. Johns now offers volleyball to grades K-8. Our program breaks down into the following age groups; K-2nd, 3rd thru 5th and 6th thru 8th. The focus of the program is to introduce the sport of volleyball to our female athletes and to teach the fundamentals and techniques necessary to succeed. The middle school girls will compete against other local schools in scrimmage and game settings. In our first year, we have over 50 children signed up and we look for the program to continue to grow.

We are always in need of coaches, team parents etc. so parents are encouraged to get involved. Additional information regarding registration dates, fees etc. will be sent home with the student during the school year. Pat Crowley - Athletic Director 301-698-5587 pat@thecrowleycompany.com.
